If you are feeling suicidal, don't hide it. Talk about it

If you are feeling suicidal, don't hide it. Talk about it to someone you trust or phone a helpline listed on the left.

Are you having serious thoughts about suicide? Do you have a plan and means to carry them out?

If so, call 999 RIGHT NOW. Or look in your phone book for local crisis support services. Don't try to cope alone.

There are people out there who will be willing to help you and this site provides useful information on how to get help.

 

If you are worried that someone is suicidal, ask them. It could save their life.

Most people thinking about suicide will try to let someone know. The key to helping is watching out for the warning signs and knowing what to do to help.

Everyone is different so in some cases few or none of these signs are evident, however here are the most common ones.

Suicide Prevention Week

Suicide Prevention Week runs from 8 - 12 September 2008 and aims to inform people about

  • The early prevention of suicide and intervention
  • Responding to immediate suicidal situations
  • The support and help that is available to help those affected by suicide
  • Raising awareness and encouraging people to seek help early
  • What works in preventing suicide
